Coaster sets are the showpiece of the rod-and-connector world, and the box art does them no favours. What looks like an afternoon project is usually two evenings, and what looks like a tabletop model wants most of a dining table plus a metre of clear air above it. Measure before you buy, not after

A finished coaster with a motorised lift hill needs a flat, rigid surface roughly the size of a dining table, and height for the tallest tower plus your hands above it.
